Life is good from the front porches of the Cape Fear House. Those porches offer a breathtaking view of the Cape Fear River, from which its original builder, Thomas Mann, ventured out to run the Union blockade more than 150 years ago. He built the house out of local longleaf pine and the original wood remains one of the luxuries of this beautiful home. Remodeled in 2015, our 4200 ft.² home features original heart pine flooring, double front porches, 5 spacious bedrooms sleeping up to 13 people, 3 1/2 baths, den, living room, dining room and kitchen. The Cape Fear House offers our vacationers a unique combination of exceptional accommodations, remarkable convenience to local shops and restaurants and picturesque views of the Southport waterfront that make this home a vacation place not soon forgotten.
Located on the riverfront in Southport, the day starts and ends on the front porches. Sunrise over the Cape Fear River is best enjoyed with a cup of coffee watching the Ibis leaving Battery Island and flying inland to spend the day. You really can hear the rush of the wind over their wings as they travel overhead. Our home is within leisurely walking distance of very fine restaurants, antique shops, art galleries and historic sites located in Southport. We are 20 min. by car from the public beaches on Oak Island. In the evening, enjoy a glass of wine while you listen once again to the Ibis overhead returning to their nests out in the river and perhaps spot dolphin out in the water. If you are lucky enough to see a full moon rising low over the river, go to the second-story front porch and notice how the moon silhouettes Battery Island. No matter what you have done for the day, a visit to the beach, shopping, paddling the marsh or simply a relaxing stroll around town, it is the view from the front porch to which you will return again and again.

I can not say enough about Cape Fear House or the owners for that matter. The house is magnificent and is even better in person than the pictures. No need to look any further, this is the perfect house for you. And the Fairley family are just a joy to work with. We rented Cape Fear House to surprise my mom for her birthday. My mom lives in the area, but we had never been. The Fairley’s were more than willing to help with whatever guidance we needed to make sure the surprise was a success. The house has everything you could possibly need to accommodate your stay. I give this house and the owners 5 Stars!Tammy C. -August, 2017
Spent a week with four other couples in Southport. This home has so much to offer. Two large dining areas, two comfortable indoor sitting areas (the decor is amazing), two huge porches with beautiful views of the waterway & lined with comfy rocking chairs, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, a kitchen with all the amenities, laundry room, garage - just can't say enough about Cape Fear House. The owners have thought of everything! A grand place for a large group, with its multiple gathering spots. As well as room for privacy. Perfect location within walking distance of shops, restaurants and historic attractions. Can't wait to come back . Oh, and be sure to schedule a climb up the Oak Island Lighthouse across the waterway. The views are amazing!Judith L. -May, 2017
We stayed for one week with 4 other couples. We had the best time! The Cape Fear House is beautiful. It's very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Each couple had their own bedroom. We had plenty of time to visit on the huge front porch. Loved the white rocking chairs. The view on the porch is spectacular. There is plenty of space throughout the house whether or not you want a quiet space for a few, or a larger group. It was fun sitting around the large dining room table with everyone. The tv room was cozy and the large living room is beautiful. We appreciated all of the amenities, like the beach towels and chairs, the plush bath towels, and the cute make-up towels. The kitchen is amazing. It's large and well equipped with everything needed for a large group. The large washer and dryer is a plus for a large group. We loved Southport and staying in the Cape Fear house was within walking distance to downtown, the marina and the great restaurants. We loved walking around and looking at the wonderful older homes. We definitely would book it again.Gail P. -May, 2017
My brother, who lives in New Hampshire, rented this house so that that a variety of family members could gather there for Thanksgiving week. We were all thrilled by his selection. The owners are so gracious and welcoming and the accommodations were of five star hotel quality. And in addition we had a prime location in the small historic coastal town of Southport and within an easy drive of beautiful beaches. This is one of those places you hate to recommend because you know the next time you want to stay there it will probably be booked. But, go ahead and book the Cape Fear House -- just save Thanksgiving week for us!.John K. -October, 2016
This is a magnificent, historical home and landmark in the town of Southport. The owners have equipped the home with everything you need to make your stay a wonderful experience. Enjoy rocking on the porch and watching the wildlife and boat traffic on the Cape Fear River or visit local restaurants and shops which are all within an easy walking distance. Our family will stay at the Cape Fear House again.Robin A. -April, 2017
